A 12-year-old kid was remanded in a juvenile home in Ekiti State after reportedly stabbing two brothers in the hand and shoulder.
On Wednesday, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun decided that “the defendant is a juvenile and shall be tried in the juvenile court.” He is hereby ordered remanded at the juvenile facility,” as the case was adjourned until August 16 for mention.
Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the police prosecutor, told the court that the defendant (child) committed the act on August 10 about 8 a.m. in the Omi Olori area of Ado Ekiti.
Oriyomi said: “the defendant assaulted two siblings – Toheeb Adeitan and Tajudeen Adeitan- by beating them and stabbing them on the hand and shoulder.”
The prosecutor continued, “The defendant wilfully and maliciously damaged the Vivo handset valued at N19,000 belonging to one Basiri Adeitan. The defendant acted in a way that could lead to a breach of the peace.
“The offences committed violate Sections 186, 421, and 181(d) of the Ekiti State Laws, 2021,” Oriyomi stated as he requested a brief adjournment to allow him to review the case file and produce witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him as his counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
