Selena Gomez has been transparent about the health issues preventing her from becoming a mother.
The singer and actress stated in an open interview with Vanity Fair that her health issues make pregnancy too dangerous for her and the unborn child.
She claimed that this has caused her pain.
“Although I’ve never said it, I’m sadly unable to bear my own children.
“I have numerous health problems that could endanger the life of the unborn child and me. I had to weep over that for a while,” the 32-year-old added.
The artist has previously addressed this matter, according to the newspaper.
Gomez revealed in 2017 that she had received a kidney transplant in response to lupus, an autoimmune disease that is incurable and causes the body’s immune system to become hyperactive and target healthy tissue. Medication, however, can be used to control symptoms.
In 2022, Gomez told Rolling Stone that she may not be able to have a safe pregnancy due to the medication she takes for bipolar disorder, a topic covered in her documentary, My Mind and Me.
In her interview with Vanity Fair, Gomez mentioned that she remains open to the possibility of surrogacy or adoption.
She said, “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen like it does for everyone else. I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.
“It made me really thankful for the other options available for people who are eager to become parents. I’m one of those people.
“I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll be a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
Gomez is currently in a relationship with music producer Benny Blanco.
