CEO of Amazon Andy Jassy has declared that, as of January 2, 2025, corporate staff will have to work five days a week from the office, returning the corporation to its pre-pandemic practices.
Jassy clarified that Amazon’s leadership has been reassessing ways to improve customer satisfaction, creativity, and teamwork in a memo distributed to staff members.
Jassy added, “We continue to believe that there are significant benefits to working together in the office when we reflect back over the last five years.”
The choice is a substantial departure from Amazon’s current policy, which mandates that corporate staff members work three days a week from the office.

He added, “If anything, the last 15 months we’ve been back in the office at least three days a week has strengthened our conviction about the benefits.”
The decision marks a departure from Amazon’s current policy, which requires corporate employees to work from the office three days a week.
Jassy explained that bringing employees back into the office full-time would help address issues with collaboration and innovation.
“It’s easier for employees to learn, model, practice, and strengthen our culture and brainstorm when they’re together in person,”
Jassy wrote. “If anything, the last 15 months we’ve been back in the office at least three days a week has strengthened our conviction about the benefits.”
This change follows a period of flexibility during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many companies adopted remote work arrangements.
In 2021, Amazon introduced a flexible work policy, allowing leaders to determine team arrangements.
However, in February 2023, the company mandated three-day office attendance, sparking protests from some employees.
When the change was implemented, Jassy advised disgruntled staff members to either “disagree and commit” or think about quitting, saying that “it’s probably not going to work out” for those who refused.
The new policy will affect corporate workers of Amazon worldwide and go into effect on January 2, 2025.
