A 25-year-old lady named Yetunde Gbadebo has been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command for trying to sell her three-year-old daughter on Sagamu’s Aladiye Street.
According to information our correspondent received on Sunday, the incident happened on July 25, 2024, at around 10:00.
PUNK According to a police source at the command, Sunday None, 38, was the man with whom the suspect was negotiating a price of N700,000 for the toddler when he was apprehended by Metro.
A homeowner saw the two during the negotiation, therefore a squad of Sagamu Division police investigators descended upon the scene.
Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, claimed that Gbadebo refuted the accusation and that none of the suspects had admitted to the crime during questioning.
“The woman was about to sell her three-year-old daughter to another suspect,” the spokeswoman stated. A Sagamu resident came to our station to report seeing the two suspects haggling over the price.
“A group of detectives from the Sagamu Police Division arrived on the site and apprehended the two individuals. The man has admitted to the offence.
“As soon as preliminary findings are completed, the case will be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department.”
A similar instance was reported by PUNCH Metro in January 2024, involving the arrest of 38-year-old Chinyere Chukwu in Anambra State for allegedly trying to sell her two sons, who were seven and nine years old.
The suspect allegedly planned to sell the children to Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, who pretended to be a buyer after getting a tip, together with her eldest daughter, Joy Chukwu, 17.
