Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, the protest organisers’ attorney, has demanded that the #EndBadGovernance demonstration be suspended.
Friday, Adegboruwa issued an order to cease the demonstration immediately and indefinitely, noting in a statement that it had been taken over by thugs.
In order to make way for genuine communication and interaction with the administration, he added, “I appeal to the protesters to withdraw themselves from their various protest grounds and to suspend the protests immediately and indefinitely.”
“It’s imperative to prevent more losses and injuries, as the protests were allegedly taken over by subsidised agents. He warned that no leader should ever take the citizens for granted again. Adegboruwa said, “I commend the people of Nigeria who trooped out in their large numbers to join the protests and those who stayed at home in solidarity by way of peaceful civil disobedience. “No leader should ever take the people for granted. In the peculiar circumstance of the hunger and hardship being experienced by our people across the land, the protests were more than justified.” He berated President Bola Tinubu for not engaging the organisers despite issuing a notice, as he called on the president to address the nation.
“This protest was announced many weeks ago, but nothing was done to engage the protest organisers to address the issues raised in their charter of demands,” stated Adegboruwa. In a similar vein, the government disregards multiple labour union strike notices before they finally spiral out of control and result in strike action. This isn’t how things should be.
Therefore, I urge President Bola Tinubu to speak to the country directly before addressing the demonstrators via their spokespeople. After that, the government ought to appoint a committee made up of honourable men and women to meet with the demonstrators and discuss the problems they have brought up.
