Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube, died Friday at the age of 56 following a two-year struggle with non-small cell lung cancer, her family announced. “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki’s passing,” her husband Dennis Troper wrote on Facebook. “Susan was more than simply my best friend and life partner; she was also a brilliant thinker, a wonderful mother, and a good friend to many. “Her contributions to our family and the globe were tremendous. We are heartbroken, but appreciative for the time we spent with her. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we go through this tough time.
As one of the first employees employed by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Wojcicki was likened to Silicon Valley aristocracy. From 2007 to 2015, her sister Anne Wojcicki, the CEO and founder of 23andMe, was wed to Brin.
