In response to rumours that he is an Igbo father, former president Olusegun Obasanjo said it “just makes me laugh.”
At the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, he was receiving the leadership of the Ndigbo Amaka Progressive Market Association when he made this statement.
Obasanjo declared, “We own this country together,” underscoring the significance of maintaining Nigerian unity.
He stated that he was in favour of the Owerri Central Market’s construction, which has been discussed since Imo State was formed. He expressed confidence in the project’s success and recognised the governor’s interest in it.
“Having ensured that the Yorubas, Igbos, and Hausas all came together to fight the war of unity in Nigeria, and not to fight Igbos to go, but to come,” stated Obasanjo, underscoring his commitment to unity. Thus, he will be the one to depart if someone tells me that someone needs to leave anywhere.
Chief Emeka Dallas Emmanuel, the market association’s spokesperson, asked Obasanjo for help in bringing the global market—which will serve as a centre for innovation and entrepreneurship—to life. In addition, he asked for assistance in securing loans so that members could own stores and market places.
