Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a Nigerian activist and the Labour Party’s nominee for Lagos State governor in 2023, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the opposition parties in Nigeria, pointing to their lack of accomplishments.
Speaking live on Friday regarding the ongoing #EndBadGovernance Protests on News Central TV, Rhodes-Vivour chastised the opposition for not aggressively advancing good governance. He blamed a tainted political system for this failure.
“I did not anticipate seeing this level of opposition. It is obvious that there are issues with the entire system. It’s totally compromised,” he declared.
He went on to say how disappointed he was with the opposition’s performance, especially in the National Assembly.
“The level of opposition we are witnessing today, particularly at the National Assembly, greatly disappoints me. There should be much more being done, but nobody is raising the issue.
Additionally, Rhodes-Vivour accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of endorsing terrible governance by failing to confront those in positions of authority.
According to him, Akpabio’s inaction indicates that he embraces the status quo, which breeds incompetence and disregard for the interests of the populace.
According to News Central, Pat Utomi, a political economy and management expert from Nigeria, expressed similar worries about the status of the opposition in Nigeria last week.
Labour Party member Utomi expressed his dissatisfaction and criticised his party’s lack of proactive resistance on News Central’s Politics HQ. Additionally, he vented his annoyance at the elected members of the House of Representatives, claiming that their corruption prevented them from opposing anything. “The Labour Party (LP) is not in opposition. The National Assembly’s opposition leaders do not hold opposing views. Because of corruption, the elected officials are not resisting,” Utomi had stated.
