The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, was hosted in the office of Mr. Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, in an effort to strengthen bilateral ties and open up new opportunities for the nation’s socio-economic and economic development.
In addition to discussing opportunities for economic cooperation and bolstering bilateral ties between the two nations, the summit tackled socioeconomic issues in light of recent protests.
A high-level Chinese delegation led by Minister Counsellor Wang Yingzi was hosted by the minister in a historic gesture to boost economic ties and open up new investment opportunities in the nation, paving the way for a stronger alliance between China and Nigeria.
In the course of the discussion with the US envoy, Edun stressed that his ministry, Nigeria, is still committed to fostering global partnerships that would improve the country’s citizens’ economic welfare, and he noted that the visit was a major step towards realising that objective.
He stated that Nigeria and the US are well-positioned to deepen their collaboration and provide a better future for their people because of their shared commitment to promoting economic growth and giving socio-economic solutions.
Thus, according to a statement released by Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations, “this strategic engagement comes at a pivotal moment, as both nations seek to navigate the complexities of global economic dynamics and address pressing socio-economic challenges.”
According to the statement, Edun’s meeting with the Chinese delegation examined ways to improve Nigeria-China relations and discussed the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) that will take place next month.
Minister Counsellor Wang promised sustained support from Chinese financial institutions and reaffirmed China’s commitment to growing its investments in Nigeria.
Edun welcomed the collaboration and emphasised the value of Chinese investments in fostering national economic expansion, job creation, and poverty reduction.
The statement said, “This strategic engagement fosters mutual economic benefits and cooperation between Nigeria and China and sets the stage for a stronger Nigeria-China alliance.”
It emphasised that both countries are ready to take advantage of the enormous potential of their bilateral relations, promoting prosperity and development for the benefit of their inhabitants, with a renewed commitment to cooperation.
The ministry expressed its anticipation for a successful conclusion from the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and a strengthened partnership between Nigeria and China in the statement.
